On May 15, CFA Association Russia held a business breakfast themed around the global investment trends in the current market.

Since asset management is the bread and butter of a large part of the CFA Russia community, the event sparked the interest, especially considering an experience level of the invited speaker, Simon Fentham-Fletcher.

With over 20 years of investment experience, Fentham-Fletcher, CIO of the asset management firm Freedom, is ranked in the top 5 percent of portfolio managers according to Bloomberg.

During a lively and engaging presentation, the speaker gave a thorough review of global macro investment approaches and asset allocation, as well as shared his own thoughts regarding some of the strategies used in the industry.

Fentham-Fletcher had a few interesting things to say about the inverted yield curve and whether it is a true predictor of a future economic recession, as we have been told before. Although historically the inverted yield curve was a forecaster of market collapses in the past, following the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 things are not as they used to be, the speaker said.
