Twenty representatives of CFA Association Russia took part in the parliamentary hearings on the Privatization of railways in Russia and Germany (examples of JSC “Russian Railways” and “Deutsche Bahn AG”) in the lower chamber of the Russian Parliament, at its main conference hall on March 20th, 2014.

The hearings were dedicated to the current draft bill on the possible sale of part of the JSC (Russian Railways) shares, followed by the subsequent reorganization of the company. The draft bill is currently under consideration by the State Duma. 

Participants of the hearings included members of the Federation Council and deputies of the lower chamber of the Russian Parliament.  In attendance were heads of ministries for multiple departments, including Economic Development Ministry of the Russian Federation, the Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia, the Ministry of Transport of Russia, Federal Tariff Service of Russia, Russian Federal Agency for Railway Transport, the Federal Agency for State Property Management, and the JSC “Russian Railways”. Other strategically important and system-forming enterprises were present. These included state companies and banks, foreign experts, famous scientists and specialists, representatives of the mass media, representatives of unions and government organizations, and entrepreneurs. 

Christopher Brookes, the Managing Director, Head of Global Transportation & Logistics IBD EMEA, Barclays Bank and Pol Boston, and the Managing Director of J.P. Morgan all shared their international experience with railway privatization.

CFA Association Russia plans to keep monitoring the upcoming parliamentary events, which are of interest to the local investment community.
