The Russian stage of the 2016 – 2017 CFA Institute Research Challenge is coming along according to schedule. December 26 was the deadline for draft reports and 26 teams submitted their work.

CFA Association Russia acknowledges hard work of all the students and faculty advisers, who despite busy days during the exam period made a significant progress with their reports. However, work isn’t finished yet, as the next step is to come up with a final report that is due at the end of January.

This year, CFA Russia has the unprecedented number of universities competing at the local stage. Moscow Exchange (MoEx), this year’s subject company, is by no means an easy company to analyze. But as the saying goes experience is the best teacher. By doing a financial analysis of Russia’s largest exchange group, students will gain valuable experience that will later give them the edge in future employment.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a competition between university teams that research a designated publicly traded company, prepare a written report on that company and then present their findings to a panel of judges. The competition has three levels: local, regional, and global. Winners at the local level advance to compete against teams within their geographic region at the regional level. Winning teams at the regional level advance to compete at the global level. One team then becomes a winner at the global level.
